SEVEN856

Perched in one of Knysna’s most coveted settings, SEVEN856 is a bold three-level coastal retreat in The Heads — a home designed as a sensorial holiday destination, where architecture becomes an experience in itself. Arrival is intentionally unconventional. Entering from the lowest level off the cul-de-sac, the house is fully veiled by a massive planted boundary wall that forms a grand, private threshold. Beyond this green escarpment, the motor court reveals a striking, full-height laser-cut screen — read first as a sculptural façade element. In a dramatic kinetic moment, this screen drops away into the terrain, transforming the arrival sequence and unveiling the showroom garage below, flanked by study spaces and a lounge. Two secluded guest suites complete this level, entirely separated from the family quarters above. The middle floor is dedicated to private family living. It houses the main bedroom suite, four children’s rooms, and a complete music room and home theatre — all aligned to panoramic Indian Ocean views. Circulation on this level is calm and intimate, acting as a breathing space between the spectacle of arrival and the openness of the summit. At the top, the house opens into its ultimate entertainment pavilion — the highest level framed completely in glass. Here, indoor and outdoor living merge around a formal kitchen and chef’s kitchen, expansive dining areas, a breakfast nook, a feature glass wine display room, and generous lounge spaces spilling out to exterior bar and seating terraces. Wellness and leisure follow in full: gym, spa, sauna, steam room, pool, and jacuzzi, anchored by a boma/firepit terrace that crowns the home against the horizon. SEVEN856 is bold and unrestrained by design. Its unconventional interior language and sculpted architectural form ensure that every movement through the home feels like passing through a single large inhabitable sculpture — a celebratory, immersive retreat tuned to light, view, and atmosphere.
